
Keeping Your Industrial Heaters Alive in Wet Environments
If you’ve ever had an infrared heater die on you way too early, you probably already know the culprit: water. Whether it’s a sudden splash or just that constant, annoying industrial mist, moisture is the fastest way to kill a heater. That’s why we built our latest series to hit the IPX5 rating. We wanted something that could actually handle being sprayed from any angle without blinking.
How we actually keep the water out
Here’s the thing about standard heaters—they usually leak at the wiring terminals. Moisture creeps in, the contacts oxidize, and then pop, you’ve got a short circuit. We fixed that by using high-temperature gaskets to seal off the electrical junctions and the lamp housing. By keeping the electronics completely separate from the heating element, we stop the corrosion before it even has a chance to start. It’s a simple fix, but it makes a world of difference.
Dealing with fog and splashes
Fog isn’t just a nuisance; it’s a liability. When water settles on a quartz tube, the heat doesn’t spread evenly. You end up with “hot spots” that can literally crack the glass. To stop that, we changed the shape of the housing. It’s designed to shed water quickly so nothing pools around the lamp. The result? You get steady, reliable heat even in high-humidity zones. Plus, we used materials that can take a beating from caustic splashes without the chassis falling apart.
A few things to keep in mind
Now, waterproofing comes with a few trade-offs. Because the housing is sealed, these units are a bit bulkier than the open-frame versions. They’re also a little heavier, so just make sure your mounting brackets can handle the extra weight. You’ll also notice the outer casing takes a bit longer to cool down. That’s just the nature of the seals trapping some of that ambient heat. One last tip: when you’re wiring these up,**use the waterproof cable glands we provide.**If you swap them out for standard conduits, you’re basically throwing the IPX5 rating in the trash. Keep the seals tight, and these things will last.
