The Reality of Vacuum Insulation
When you’re working in a vacuum, there is zero room for error. A tiny speck of dust, a microscopic pinhole in the quartz, or a seal that isn’t quite tight at the electrode can trigger a flashover. It happens in a blink. That’s why we don’t just “hope” the tubes work. We push every single lamp tube way past its rated operating voltage during our dielectric tests. We basically beat them up electrically before they ever leave our floor to make sure they can handle the stress without leaking current.
Why We Don’t Do “Random Sampling”
Some companies test a few tubes from a batch and assume the rest are fine. We don’t do that. In high-end vacuum gear, one bad tube is all it takes to fry your entire power supply or ruin a clean-chamber process. That’s a lot of money and time down the drain. We check the insulation resistance between the heating element and the outer shell on every single piece. If a tube fails the megohmmeter test? It goes in the scrap bin. No second chances.
The Trade-offs You Need to Know
High-voltage, vacuum-rated heaters are great because they give you the heat density you need for fast curing or degassing. But that power puts a lot of pressure on your wiring. Check your connectors. Make sure they’re seated perfectly. And please, double-check that your cable insulation is actually rated for the vacuum level you’re pulling. If you’re hitting a deep vacuum, the risk of corona discharge goes up. We’ll give you the actual test data for your lamps. Use it.
